Seagull with plastic trash

Introducing Unplastix: Because it’s time to break up with plastics

Our love affair with plastic is over, but it’s hard to walk away. Almost everything is made from or packaged in the stuff. Plastics are trashing our beautiful planet at an accelerating rate. We need to get real and figure out what to do about this unhealthy relationship.

Recycling won't do it.

You probably recycle what you can, only to hear in the news that plastic waste could double by 2030. No matter how conscientious we are less than 10% of plastics are recycled. California and other states are passing laws to address this, but it will take years for the results to show. And meanwhile we can all make significant changes right now.

The best way to keep plastic out of the environment is to keep it out of our shopping carts.

Unplastix makes it easy for you to find brilliantly designed products that have transitioned away from harmful plastics. We review and link to innovative products for beauty, hair, skin, teeth, your home, pets, children, and more. Many are created by new companies that don’t have the marketing budgets to make themselves noticed. We are on a mission to find them and give them the attention they deserve.

We will continuously add new products and review how well they meet these high standards:

  • made and packaged without harmful plastics
  • organic
  • cruelty-free
  • zero-waste

Meet the new bioplastics

If you didn’t know much about bioplastics made from hemp, seaweed, and other plants you are in for some pleasant surprises. Unplastix will feature companies creating and using new biodegradable plastics. For example, Sway is using seaweed to create compostable plastic wraps, packaging, and bags. Notpla makes edible plastic packaging from seaweed. If you don’t care to eat the package you can simply toss it in the compost bin. The Hemp Plastic Company  and Sana Packaging are two of many new companies that provide other businesses with jars, containers, and packaging made from biodegradable and compostable hemp plastics. Fashion designers are using vegan leathers made from fruits and plants instead of plastic. We’ll showcase some of their distinctive bags, purses, shoes and clothing.

Enjoy the new look

There’s a visual appeal to plastic alternatives that will probably grow on you. Your living space will take on a new aesthetic with everyday items made of wood, glass, natural bristles, stones, and other creative materials. They’ll remind you that you’re on the leading edge of a global redesign.

Bend the market

Companies respond to what consumers buy. Every time you purchase something that has moved away from harmful plastics you make a statement and contribute to powerful change. You strengthen the new, innovative companies who have put everything on the line for a healthy planet. Larger companies will notice that consumers want products designed and packaged with the planet in mind. They will change to meet consumer demand. You can drive this change with your purchasing power.

Be a shoptavist

Unplastix will bring the future of health and well-being into the present by empowering those who want it now. You can be a shoptavist, not just a shopper. Use your power as an activist and consumer to change the marketplace, heal the planet, and reduce harmful plastics. Boost the power of the amazing companies that are exploring and inventing a healthier future. And let big businesses know that you want them to redesign with the planet in mind.

It's time to move on!
